Li Miller is an artist working in the detroit area.

Though my main medium is photography, which I've been working in professionally doing freelance work for fashion events, editorial, and product work since 2014, I also create video and performance work, which I weave in through my personal portraiture.

In 2014 while at SAIC (Chicago), I started and a street style column, which got me hooked on detail and fashion work.  After moving back to Michigan/Detroit in 2015, I began working with local designers and vintage stores in Downtown and Metro Detroit, as well as remotely retouching album art and fashion work for clients in LA and NYC—The former I was steadily working form 2018-2020 (until the pandemic happened) which is also when I graduated with a BFA in Photography and a minor in Fashion Design Business from CCS in Detroit.

During my time at CCS, and when I declared a minor in fashion business, I fell into styling after working with a local vintage shop and accessories from a designer in NYC. I found being hands-on and using texture, color, and garment history to tell a narrative was at the intersection of things I enjoyed and was good with. Around that time I also took up cosplaying which got me more involved with hands-on garment construction outside of a classroom setting, though I've been fascinated with garment design and color theory since making paper dolls with my grandmother when I was very young, which was also where I grew up on stories of the Hudson's Department store downtown Detroit and movie houses—these became more of a fairytale castle of window displays from pictures and stories and made me an advocate for historical preservation and textile/garment history and quality.

All these things have very much informed the way I see the world, and my visual practices.
